The most effective help for you to make your selection and booking of an accomodation convenient is presumably a useful hotel booking website. Favorably, the Graz Tourist Office offers a rather good online reservation site. Following the link below you will find all relevant information for selecting and booking the hotel/room of your choice, usually together with nice how-to-get-there maps (the page can also be accessed via the Graz Tourism Website).

As you may not want to take the time to dig out your choice via the above website only, we have in addition prepared a small set of recommended hotels of different categories below, including detailed coordinates and a few hints on their character for your convenience.

Most of the hotels are located in the city center area within 15 minutes walking distance from the workshop location and all are with good and frequent public (tramway or bus) connection to it. In some of these hotels we have secured a block pre-reservation for the period September 14-22, 2002, which is held valid until July 26, 2002. These are marked with "block pre-reservation" in the list below; please mention the keywords "University of Graz" and "OPAC" when making a reservation in one of them.

Note that during the week of the OPAC-1 Workshop there will be some other meetings and touristic activity in Graz as well. Thus, in order to ensure that you really get what you want, we strongly encourage you to book as soon as possible. We will do our best to enable a great and successful workshop, and a good time for you during the days; we wish that an uncomfortable accomodation should not "disturb" your stay. The favorable location of the hotel, in the heart of the Old Town, allows you to watch, across the River Mur, the sunset behind the Schlossberg (from a room at the Schlossberg side). The Hauptplatz is just 2 minutes away, and you may proceed straight to the workshop location via the picturesque Sporgasse, one of the oldest streets of Graz, and the Stadtpark. Quite reasonably priced rooms.

Altough it takes a little time (about half an hour) to reach the workshop location and Old Town (by good and frequent Tramway connection), you will like this comfortable hotel with the huge chestnut trees in front. Sports(wo)men, who love to jog some meters in the morning or evening, find some great paths in the nearby woods. A nice place, and an excellent cuisine, which even alerted Gault Millau.

A small place, but a very traditional house - 400 years old, recently renovated. You will find, besides stylish rooms, tasty meals in a private atmosphere. And it's as close to the University as the Old Town.

Good and moderately priced rooms can be found in this modern and comfortable hotel, housed in extraordinary architecture, and located in front of Graz Hauptbahnhof (main train station).

Pleasant, centrally located bed-and-breakfast guesthouse, only a few minutes walk from the center of the Old Town. Nice little beer garden attached.
