Basic Information

Proceedings will be prepared in form of a high-quality Proceedings Book published by Springer Verlag. The book will contain the contributions to the workshop in form of concise written papers (invited papers 8-12 pages, contributed papers 6-8 pages; page size is "book size", not DIN-A4/Letter size).

Presenters are required to supply written versions of papers within 1.5 months after the workshop. All papers are peer-reviewed by SPC members and participants in the workshop in order to coherently ensure high quality of the full book contents. Availability of the ready book in printed and electronic form is foreseen no later than nine months after the workshop.

While the Proceedings Book cannot be distributed free of charge, it has been agreed with Springer Verlag that it will be available to workshop participants at a significantly discounted rate (price max. 60,- EUR).

Information on paper preparation and upload

As noted above, papers should comprise 8 to 12 pages (invited papers) or 6 to 8 pages (contributed papers), respectively. According to Springer's prescribed layout, pages are "book sized", i.e., comprise less contents per page than standard DIN-A4/Letter size.

Each paper shall be written carefully following Springer's layout instructions. Quite easing the job, Springer provides convenient templates for both Word and LaTeX on its webpages (tests confirmed that they work properly). You can choose either of these two based on your personal preference. Note that figures are printed black&white throughout (except if you are willing to pay 500,- EUR per page containing color); thus please make sure that color figures, if included, reproduce well also in b/w printing. Furthermore, as Springer may later ask to provide complex figures as separate files, please keep your figures available as .tif or .eps files.

You can download the relevant template files here (source www.springer.de/geosci/authors/):
Questions on the use of the templates or on related issues should be addressed to Andrea Steiner (Word) or Ulrich Foelsche (LaTeX&Word).

If you have your paper ready (excellent!), please stow the relevant file(s) into a compressed archive file (.zip or .tar.gz or .tgz or .gz file) and proceed to upload it right now. Please upload your paper by October 30, 2002, at the very latest, in order to avoid risk that it is not included in the book. We will stay in contact with you on the next steps (see time schedule above).

Thanks a lot for your important contribution to the success of OPAC-1 and its Proceedings Book!
